New College Doncaster student has work selected for online Royal Academy exhibition

New College Doncaster student Summair Dickson has had her work included in a prestigious exhibition run by The Royal Academy in London.

Summair鈥檚 鈥楶ainted Seconds鈥 piece, which she described as an 鈥榓crylic painting of a spliced image, exploring the emotion associated with spaces and moments in our lives鈥, was selected from over 33,000 entries and will appear both online and physically at The Royal Academy鈥檚 exhibition this year. Inclusion in a Royal Academy exhibition has been the start of many a professional artists鈥 career, and for over 250 years the institution has led the way in defining artistic tastes and styles.

Summair said: 鈥淚’d never thought about submitting my work for competitions or anything before, so this was an amazing opportunity.”

Visual Arts teacher Laura Bunn praised Summair: 鈥淪he has been a dedicated art student throughout her time at New College Doncaster. Her ideas are sophisticated and personal, and she has developed a mature painting style.鈥

Summair鈥檚 triumph follows on from the recent success of three more students selected for London Metropolitan University鈥檚 Young Photographer online exhibition, where New College Doncaster student Tilly Reed won the 鈥楽till Life鈥 category.

Laura commented: 鈥淎s a whole, the Year 13 Visual Art students here at New College Doncaster have worked incredibly hard, producing work which is of the highest standards we have seen since opening. We really wish them all the luck for the next steps of their journey and will genuinely miss them.鈥
